Greater Knapweed Flower

I was woken by a torrential downpour around 5 a.m. - so I was up shortly afterwards!!

It rained steadily for about three hours..before easing off. I took a chance and got out for a walk around 8:30. The sun did come out and it got quite warm…especially as I had put on my waterproof coat, expecting more rain!!

This fabulous flower was growing in a grassy verge along the footpath. The grass has become very long and was weighed down by all the rain…so I finished up with my trousers soaked from about mid thigh downwards.

Google lens tells me it is a Greater Knapweed..I just love the colour of it and the shape of the petals. We are off to the cinema this evening ..with our son and daughter…to see the first Lord Of the Rings film (extended version).

It runs to something 3.5 hours…that should be an interesting test for the bladder :-( …. so no cups of tea or beer for me this afternoon:-)
