Don’t rain on our parade …
..it did! All afternoon.
Watched The Trooping of the Colour this morning on TV. As they left Horse Guards Parade it rained heavily but by the time of the flypast the sun was out and skies were blue, not so here.
It started to rain in earnest late morning and at 1.30 we walked up the village with umbrellas to watch the parade come down the main road. Here you can see the end of the parade with the Village Players walking tableau and a drum band. The start was the New Orleans band as usual but with only my phone they all seemed to be out of focus. Such a shame that the age of floats has gone due to insurance issues but good to see so many involved anyway.
In the field I was helping in the church gazebo. The rain wasn’t letting up and our roof was filling up with water. You could see the ground was getting more and more churned up by the minute and Diddy Dennis the fire engine, giving rides, was starting to get stuck and he was having to vary his path.
Not long after 3.00 pm, with normality 2 hours to go it was announced that all the outer stalls were closing so I texted Chris to come and help with transporting tables and books back to church. By this time they had started taking down the poles and buntings creating the track for the children's races. I’ve never known a Gala Day pack up early and certainly never one where the races were abandoned. Such a shame after so much effort.
Personally, despite being very kindly brought a warming cuppa, I was ready to go home as I was frozen! Midsummers Day next week!
