Meadow Pipit

After a downpour of rain the day cleared up and we drove west towards Valley to a small shop selling local meat, expensive kitchen knives -  can’t think I have seen such a range of makes, shapes and sizes - and some rather good looking kitchen ware. I resisted most although stocked up on meat and one or two other foody items. A fun half hour or so.

Afterwards back to the nature reserve visited on Thursday .with no jets to be seen or heard today.  We did spot a common white throat, delighted, as well as pipits, a Robin and skylarks.  Also we could see orchids all over the area and a large patch of Purple Marshlocks or marsh cinquefoil, neither of us remember coming across this before.

From internet
Marsh Cinquefoil likes wet, boggy places, fens and peaty meadows. When it is in flower, between May and July, it is a good source of food for nectar-loving insects such as bees and hoverflies.  It is a member of the rose family. also known as (Potentilla palustris) Purple Marshlocks and Swamp Cinquefoil
