The Front Yard (Tuesday 18th June 2024)
Just outside the kitchen window this Cherry 'Kojo-no-mai' has finished flowering and its leaves will turn red and orange in the autumn, but the foliage is a luxuriant green in the meantime. More toadflax is visible in the background. This was taken from outside, pressed against the kitchen wall, with the lens at its widest angle (24mm equivalent).

Lozarhythm Of The Day:
Sandy Denny - Silver Threads And Golden Needles (1976)
Surprisingly, the first recording of this much-covered song was by Wanda Jackson in 1956. I think I first knew it by the Springfields (1962) and it was also a big hit for Linda Ronstadt. The Springfields' version sold a million worldwide but missed the UK charts altogether. Its major success in the US led to it being covered by Skeeter Davis.
Sandy Denny recorded this with Fotheringay in 1970 for an album that didn't materialise, but two of the band (Jerry Donahue and Pat Donaldson) back her here, along with a silver band that was arranged by Robert Kirby. It was included on the Ace label album When The Day Is Done - The Orchestrations Of Robert Kirby, which I acquired on this day.
