Bench Life
Am so glad last night's commute was aboard Biscuit as the morning was beautiful and look where she took me on the ride home?
Marple Junction was blissfully quiet at 8am and a good quarter of an hour was spent breathing in, meditating on the gentle hum of the world waking up for a Wednesday.
The blip shows Biscuit parked outside the Old Toll House, with the junction signpost and those three comfy benches at the waters edge where your Gal goes to ponder the meaning of life occasionally. Ooh, and the top of the flight of Locks beyond that take the boats down to the Lower Peak Forest Canal further downhill. Those lockbeams are comfortable too!
The extra is the old stone Mile Post down to the left of the main blip that marks the beginning of the Macclesfield Canal. This strikes me as unusual, being marked in the direction of travel "From Hall Green 26 ¼ miles". In modern parlance the sign would omit the "From", it's purpose being to tell people that Hall Green 'is' 26 ¼ miles further on. Convention must have been different in 1831.
The Roving Bridge here is very clever in it's simplicity, in that it enabled Horses to remain tied to the Narrowboats they were towing whilst taking the Towpath in any of the three directions leading from the junction. A Drone Camera would do the explaining better.
After another deep sleep into the afternoon, have just started shift no.3 and commuted again on Biscuit. Am running the fuel low because she is due a service and the fuel tank will need removing to perform it properly. Hopefully a job for the weekend :-)
