A visit to Little Moscow
Our walk was in and around Chopwell Woods today. 27 or was it 28 of us were on the walk? That is too many people but we had a good time.
Chopwell was known as Little Moscow. It had a Communist Club from 1913 and had strong communist leanings from then on. The miners here worked in terrible conditions. They were involved in the general strike in the 1920s.
Today there is a Marx and Lenin Terrace as a legacy of former days.
We were lucky with sunny weather all day. We repaired to the Adam and Eve in Prudhoe for a well earned drink at the end of the day. It was great to sit outside. I drank cola, just in case anyone is wondering!!
