On The Beaches
We had a road trip today taking in the south side of the island, passing through Sandown and Shanklin, and ending up at Freshwater Bay. I'd wanted to go to FB as it was the only place in the IOW which featured in Robert Harvey's landscapes book which I purchased when he did a presentation at Cirencester last season. We didn't find either of the views he showed in the book, maybe that required a walk along the cliff path which neither of us wanted to do. It was 21ºC after all and we'd had enough walking for the day. I did get a shot of a satsuma though, exactly as it had been left, no idea why (second extra).
I'd had a play (at last) with my Urth variable ND filter though, and when I saw the Abstract Thursday theme was 'water' I decided to go with a shot from Sandown as the main blip. It does help to use a fixed ISO when playing around with the aperture and filter settings!
The first extra, also a long exposure beach shot, was taken at Shanklin. There are lots of road closures on the island at the moment and we were going around in circles trying to get to the seafront at Shanklin. In the end we parked in the town and used the cliff lift to get down to the beach.
We got stuck in a huge traffic jam on our way back to the hotel, due I think to the music festival which starts this evening. I missed the start of the England match. It's a shame I didn't miss the rest of it.
