Jigsaw
One of the resident donkeys at Carisbrooke Castle where we have been today. They have apparently been drawing up water in the well-house there for hundreds of years. We watched a demo though and were told that their contracts of employment state that they should work for no more than 6 minutes per day! Jigsaw, 21 years old, holds the current record of just 3 and a half minutes work. The first extra shows her being led (from her second lunch) to start another strenuous shift.
I was quite pleased that we could use our Gardeners' World 2 for 1 card. A very pushy lady tried to get us to join English Heritage for £99 but we declined. Yes we were planning to go to Osborne House this week, but again we can use the 2 for 1 offer.
With impeccable bad timing we arrived at the same time as two coachloads of school children. They were all very well behaved but it made the ramparts rather crowded and difficult to negotiate. Somebody could easily fall - see second extra, don't worry she was only play acting. We found Carisbrooke really interesting, and really quiet once the children had departed.
Mid afternoon we drove on to the Isle Of Wight Steam Railway. We did the round trip on the steam train, a rather pricey £24 each for 34 minutes of travel through some pretty boring countryside. A final extra though for JohnRH of the engine that pulled us (Waggoner) and the token exchange.
