Aghious Haralabos
Today we caught a taxi to the small mountain village of Karavos. It’s known for its bakery that sells rusks worldwide. We were dropped outside the bakery cafe and shop and stopped for a coffee and to purchase some rusks. We tried a honey and almond one which was nice but bought tomato and thyme ones. We then walked up the road to the church with its magnificent pine tree and bell outside. From here we wandered through the small backstreets to find the path to Kerarari springs and followed a very overgrown path alongside the street. We jumped from one side of the river to the other as we went. It was very luxuriant with dragonflies damselflies and butterflies flying around. We even disturbed a frog that jumped back into the stream. We were heading for Amir Ali spring which we eventually reached. Unfortunately the taverna here wasn’t open so we walked back up to the road above and had lunch in the bakery.
The people were all very welcoming and friendly. Apparently it has been so hot and dry recently that they are having problems growing vegetables.
We caught our taxi back and had an enjoyable evening meal at one of the taverna’s we had visited before.
