Desperately seeking

Squab

...otherwise known as juvenile wood pigeon. Not to be confused with the slender mature stock dove which is also without the white collar.

After we had cleaned and gardened at the lodge, then cut our own grass, The Man and I sat down on the patio with a drink. A nice, sweet sherry! The peace was soon destroyed by a bird flying past us and into the kitchen window.

The bird rolled in the air and landed a few feet from us. It got itself onto its feet and sat very still. We also sat very still. It was an immature wood pigeon from one of the two nests we have in the garden.

It waddled to a nearby sheltered place. When we needed to refill our glasses we couldn't help but disturb it and it  wandered, flapping, to the place where I have blipped it.

The parents then found it.
