one day in France

Colourful

We took Elvis down to St George de Didonne for a walk this morning and found that there are now some beach huts! Also the bases of the new trees (which used to be used as a dogs toilet) have all been planted up with wild flowers!
Dogs aren’t allowed on the beach here from April to September, so we walked the boardwalk round the harbour to the lighthouse. The cliff is all collapsing so you can’t get near the Cockleshell Heroes memorial any more, so we walked back via the boulangerie.
On the seafront the traffic had stopped because the Bordeaux Pipe Band were walking along, playing the bagpipes and banging big drums! They were followed by the French WW2 enactment enthusiasts dressed in a variety of too-tight flying suits and US Army outfits, followed by various American jeeps and old cars all flying the Stars and Stripes as well as the Free French flags! I’ve no idea what that was all about but a lot of people had come out to watch.
Elvis disgraced himself by lunging at a little Scotty dog, and then got totally panicked by the sound of the drums and bagpipes, so we put him in the car to calm down while we sat on a bench and ate some croissants with a flask of coffee I’d brought.
I think Elvis may be more of a country boy than a salty sea dog, so if we bring him again it won’t be in the summer (or when bands are playing!)
