Rhyl Number 1
SATURDAY
A drive over to Ruthin for the parkrun at the Memorial Fields. I was happy with my official time of 00:26:49.
Back home for a meeting with a building contractor to discuss the options for replacing around 50 m3 of paving. He was unable to provide a firm quote as we were not sure what lies underneath the existing paving so I said I would lift a few flags and explore. I ended up taking up around twenty flagstones. It was more like an archaeological dig as I uncovered the original path and steps which are in reasonable condition and may look OK after a bit of power washing and re-pointing. (see extra).
A trip to Rhyl this afternoon and a walk on the seafront. The beach was busy with families enjoying the traditional British seaside. I also had a walk into the town which took me past the now defunct Rhyl Number 1 Signal Box.
It's one of a pair of Grade II listed London and North Western Railway signal boxes that flank the station. The surviving No 1 Box at the eastern end of Rhyl station dates from 1900 and was operational until 2018.
