The Old Man of Hoy

From Rackwick Bay we took the path up and out to the Old Man of Hoy. We’ve seen many rock stacks over the past couple of weeks but this is the big daddy. We sat and stared for a while - and eventually spotted a couple of climbers half way up. If you zoom in you might spot one inthe middle.
We continued walking on along the cliff tops and then circled round to descend the steep hillside. We passed bits of metal and machinery in the way which we later discovered was a plane which crashed in 1944 - it misjudged the height of the land on Hoy which is much higher than the rest of Orkney. A nice big walk for us - and deserved the beer waiting inthe fridge back at the van.
