Visiting the Hill House, Rennie MacIntosh

Designed externally by RM and internally by himself and wife Margaret.

We visited some years ago, this time the building is protected by a steel mesh box, quite a shock when coming across it but acceptable when hearing it is there on a temporary basis to protect the building. The rendering needs attention, although how to attend to the work is an ongoing discussion. The idea now is to protect the building from weather although to allow the wind to blow through to dry it out.

The interior is a pleasure to wander around, to read and listen to the information provided, there is any number of staff to assist with our questions, very impressive. And for a Monday morning the place was busy.

The garden and some fruit trees are well established, all set on a slope initially overlooking the waterside of Helensburgh, other large houses now hide the view.  Well worth a visit, the outer temporary box is more than amazing, apparently well known world wide.
