All Eyes on Mike
... as he tries to close the door of St John the Baptist's chapel at the English cemetery in Elvas - had to climb on a chair in the end. Lovely service by the local priest commemorating St John's birth (only saint whose birth into this life rather than the next is what we remember), with readings in Portuguese, Spanish and English, and then a flower laying in the cemetery.
Unbearably hot walking the streets to get to the restaurant afterwards, and then back to our baking car, 37C, but hotter in the sun and car, obviously. Made me think of the saying about "no bad weather, only bad clothing", and how that definitely does not apply to extreme heat - there is no clothing that will protect you from that - as various tourists are finding out - stay indoors when it's this hot!
Extra with my phone of a wildfire on the other side of the Lake that raged for about five hours and covered our Land with smoke, thankfully contained now - took 66 firemen (including from Mourão and four other towns), 18 fire trucks, and one helicopter .
Gratefuls:
- making it to the service and surviving the heat!
- getting to know the family who´ve bought a plot of land near us (for holidays, they live in Cascais)
- cooler weather predicted
