All Systems are Go......
The silage team turned up to chop the fields that were mowed on Sunday. The grass had wilted quite nicely in yesterday's heat.
A bit of traffic chaos though as there are now a set of traffic lights and road works on the brae we have to go up and down in Gorebridge. So had to do a round about route with the loaded trailers which added a few extra miles to everyone's journey. There were 9 tractors and trailers carting so the boy on the telehandler on the silage pit didn't get much of a change to consolidate the grass. I spent tonight rolling it with the wee tractor up among the shed rafters. Not a job for the feint hearted. Probably why Kev didn't show up again.
The rain started at 3 pm,and by the time they finished lifting the 110 acres tonight the silage was a good lot wetter than this morning. Hopefully the dry stuff underneath will soak up any effluent from the wetter stuff on top. The pit isn't as full as last year,so might need to try and get a 2nd cut off the fields.
Tomorrow morning we will need to give the pit a proper roll then get the plastic sheet on the top before the grass starts to spoil and heat. So roughly 1000 tyres to chuck about.
