Exploring

Slow start and despite the talk on the radio of the hottest day of the year it was cloudy here. We chatted about what to do over breakfast and decided to go to St Ives where we always visit when down here and that has lots to explore and browse regardless of the weather.
As always when driving in Cornwall the miles on the clock seem to be a bit elastic but we got there straightforwardly and parked up by a new leisure centre before trekking down the steep hill into the town. It was bright and the sun kept trying to get through as we wandered the little streets, visited the galleries (although two of our favourites had gone/closed) and browsed the shops. Picked up some birthday presents and another of the lovely fine china large mugs that I bought last time in a different design.
We enjoyed a late lunch of a pasty on the beach (last enjoyed there in 2012!) and then popped into the Tate where we loved the view over Porthmeor beach as we shared a scone with jam and cream and some pots of tea. It was certainly heating up further by then, and we did some more wandering before walking round the headland to Porthminster beach to wander along the shoreline, relax on the sand and watch the lifeguards packing up their flags. The clouds had fully cleared by then and it was gorgeous.
We got some take out chips, salad, prawns and fish fingers from the Porthminster Beach cafe (not the posh restaurant above for us this time, but we did admire the menu!) and after supper we ambled back through the town and up the hill to the car. Home for some tea, a lovely sunset and watching Sewing Bee before bed. Tomorrow is supposed to be sunny all day and we’ll probably stay closer to home and explore the Lizard.
