Lake Tekapo to Twizel

Last night's camp was gorgeous, gorgeous, gorgeous!  Soooo peaceful, right on the shores of Lake Tekapo, though with the lake levels being so low, there was no gentle lapping of water........just an expanse of rock and mud.  Still, the tree-filled park is definitely a place I would return to.......preferably with bike as there appeared to be plenty of trails to ride.

Opted to take a detour to Lake MacGregor and Lake Alexandrina and of course, a short side trip turns into hours of looking, exploring, watching etc etc.  Was so very fortunate to stumble across a couple of grebes only metres from the shore at Alexandrina just as they were embarking on some romancing.  I got to witness the courting ritual of chitter-chatter, chitter-chatter........let's get some weed from the bottom of the lake and finally, the peculiar swim towards one another, weed in beaks then 'stand up' in the water against partner offering him/her the weed.  See extras for full set.

On the drive back to the main road I almost ran over what turned out to be a very cute looking feral cat who appeared to be stalking something in the middle of the road.  Feral or domestic, cat or mouse, I can't bear the thought of killing anything so the brakes were applied strongly and puss skulked off into the grass.  I wonder what he was thinking as he stared down my lens barrel?

Back to Twizel in time for a bit of a van clean up before settling down for a cosy evening.
