Cherries

Delicious, locally grown cherries, for sale in a village store/post office where we stopped on the way home to drop off a too large hat, which J chose online and which needed to be returned. The cherries were a treat to enjoy outside in the shade with iced water - it was another hot day, with rising humidity. I again decided I couldn't manage serious gardening, but did enough other useful jobs to not feel too bad about it, including some quiet mending.

After lunch we took J to her orthotics appointment, to try a new and very different type of head support - she has been unable to hold her head up without help, even in her supportive wheelchair, since her surgery nearly two years ago, and good positioning is essential to avoid further damage, as well as for her comfort and ability to do all the things she wants and needs to do. It's not been easy to find something that works well for her - for some time now she has been wearing home-made collars cut from old tee-shirts, sewn mainly by her PA, and stuffed with a small rolled towel. It's rudimentary, but has worked better than anything else she has tried. However, today's new device looks as though it may work at least part of the time, if she learns to tolerate it comfortably, so it was an unexpectedly positive appointment. She's also had her Covid vaccination, though P and I are too young (!) to be eligible for this round: the distribution is increasingly restricted, despite a significant increase in hospitalisations in recent weeks as another sub-variant moves in. Anecdotally, we have heard of a lot of people being significantly unwell with it, but most seem sanguine about repeated reinfections; for us, it remains a worry.
