Scenes from everyday life

The First Day of the Ashes

I'm a huge cricket fan so the first day of the Ashes is a big thing for me.

The first time I saw an Ashes Test in the flesh was at Headingley in 1977 when I bought this tie.

For the past 30 years, I've always thought it was too fat to be credible (1970s: fat ties, big flares) but, digging out of the wardrobe, I find it's not as fat as I remember it, so I shall wear it tomorrow.

Come on, England!!
