River of Flowers

Friday: #30DaysWild - My Front Garden

This is where wild orchids grow - https://www.blipfoto.com/entry/3252367511433251117/gallery/3252368776984789406 - where butterflies and moths and bees and an occasional dragonfly come to feed on an assortment of plants and shrubs.

This afternoon a family of sparrows are foraging in the long grass, the babies (maybe just fledged) are in a little clump (3 of them) shivering and shuffling, unsure of what to make of “the great outdoors” beyond the protection of their nest in the hedge. The adult hunts for small insects to feed to the babies :-)

There’s an adult great tit exploring a very tall pink rose and a cotoneaster next to it - looking for tiny insects to take back to the nest to feed his mate or their babies :-)

Dunnock are jumping around in the long grass, finding insects and seeds amongst the confusion of flowers and grasses and fallen leaves.

It’s a very grey and overcast day, but there are a few bees and other insects foraging in the honeysuckle, hypericum, yellow jasmine, fuchsia, buttercups and it won’t be long before the Globe Artichokes and Inula are in flowers again - https://www.blipfoto.com/entry/3126998535262701480 - both plants incredibly useful and beautiful, providing nectar and pollen for the insects and a bonus later in the summer when they set seeds for the goldfinch and other birds.

Watched “60 years of Welsh Pop” in Wales at Glastonbury on iPlayer which was wonderful :-) Maybe watch a film later with MrD :-))

Loads of love and hugs to all my family / Cariad Mawr
