Visit to Formby & on to Preston
Backblip:
The whole week in the UK promised to be nothing but a series of short journeys interspersed with longer journeys. For our final day in the North-West, we headed up to Formby to see Kathy, my uncle Dave's widow, and then were heading up to Deepdale, Preston, to watch the Liverpool friendly against Darmstadt.
Most noticeable in Formby was the silence. Where Dave was a voluble, happy person, who was interested in everything, Kathy is more reserved. Even six months on, his presence was everywhere. Hard to imagine it will ever change.
The trip to Preston was a typical match day fiasco: works everywhere, traffic backed up, no help for the matchday traveller. England... never change.
