find the butterfly

Out on my run today and at one point in the Bathurst Estate there were so many butterflies at the side of the track, I had to stop to check what type they were.

They seemed darker than I would have expected, almost black when in flight.

I managed to get fairly close with my iPhone to capture this one. Though it is still small in the picture!

It is a ringlet and they are supposedly almost black when newly emerged.

I might need to go back there with the zoom lenses!
