Merv

Our last day in Turkmenistan and we only have a few hours to visit Merv, the country's most important historical site. Possibly the largest city in the world in its heyday, Merv was destroyed by Genghis Khan’s armies in 1221. It is estimated 700,000 people
lost their lives and the city never recovered.

A long drive later (over 5 hours - 152 miles) we are at the Uzbekistan border. Despite the stories of lengthy border crossings this one was easier than expected.
