Water, water everywhere….

Overnight we retraced our route somewhat and morning found us approaching Lerwick, having loitered for several hours in an area of sea between some of the northern isles of Orkney. It was rather wet during the coach trip we had booked to visit the Churchill Barriers which were constructed to make Scapa Flow a safer anchorage for naval ships during World War 2. Apparently this is the second largest harbour in the world after Sydney Harbour. We also visited the Italian Chapel which was built by Italian prisoners of war from two nissen huts, second hand materials and worthless scrap. It is quite beautiful and maintained to this day.
After lunch back at the ship we spent some time in Kirkwall, visiting some places of interest such as St Magnus Cathedral as well as a number of interesting independent shops.
I finished my day scanning the sea for signs of whales and dolphins, without success, but I was entertained by the acrobatic flying of quite a number of fulmars. This was when I took my Blipfoto for today.
Thank you for all the comments, stars and hearts which I have received since I started my adventure. Unfortunately, Wi-Fi signal is weak so I am unable to use my iPad to post photographs, instead having to use the app on my phone. This means that I can’t post any extra photos, just my main, so will add some such as the Italian Chapel when it is possible. Please also accept my apologies for lack of comments on your blips while I am away. There is very little spare time in my days as we are kept busy with various talks and activities.
