Breezy day at the seaside

We escaped the Central Lake District today through some apocalyptic rain showers with the car’s windscreen wipers on maximum speed. At times I would liked to have just stopped but on narrow roads there was nowhere to stop without blocking the road.

We arrived at the coast Millom and then Haverigg and the ground was dry!
Apparently very little rain had fallen there BUT it was very breezy so would soon have tried anyway.

This is my sister who almost gave up walking to the lighthouse  10 minutes earlier “Are we nearly there yet?” now rushing ahead seeing all the gulls and terns flying past the lighthouse from the Lagoon.

We made to the RSPB Hodbarrow hide overlooking hundreds of nesting Black-headed gulls and Sandwich Terns.

Bird of the day, was one we had never seen a Little Tern much smaller than the others with a yellow beak - we really did only see one.

One Extra photo of some of the birds - very confusing colours of different ages of gulls and terns, I for one was adding new species to a list that were not present :-)
