The Kitchens At Raby Castle
After our nights stay at High Force Hotel in Teesdale, part of our package included free tickets to visit Raby Castle and gardens. The hotel belongs to the Raby Estate.
I have been once many years ago and got told off for sitting on a medieval chair. However, they did not remember me from last time and let me in which I was very pleased about. It is a wonderful place. The castle is so interesting. The estate was originally owned by King Canute II. It is thought that the Viking king may have built himself a manor house there in the 11th century.
The current castle was built by the Neville family in the 14th century. Cecily Neville was the mother of two kings of England (Edward IV and Richard III).
My main photo is from the castle kitchen. Imagine having to clean all that copper. The kitchen has been there since the 14th century and was used until the 1950's. The dining room was a long way from the kitchen and I asked the guide how the food was kept warm and she said it wasn't. The food was more or less cold by it reached whoever was going to eat it.
I have attached two extras - the castle itself and some deer that roam the parkland. I could not believe how close we were able to get to them. They didn't seem bothered by us at all.
Wishing you a nice weekend and once again apologies for lack of comments.
