Smailholm

Takes a bit of cycle climbing to get here from the village but it’s a super reward. Smailholm is a most impressive erection, visible from many miles around and from the English border too. Invading reivers from Northumberland were particularly unkind to Smailholm and once kidnapped 100 villagers in a single raid. Seems a trifle excessive but I guess they found a use for them.

Later, Ali and Eve dropped in to view our new pad and stay over. They’d been moving Eve into her new student flat in Leeds and then camping in Alnwick. The weather was a little mixed so I think they are glad of a roof tonight.
