The magical bubbles at Daisy Day
I’ve been exhausted once again, after working at a General Election polling station throughout Thursday. It required my being there at 6am and then ‘on the case’ without stopping until 10pm the same day. It wasn’t strenuous but just non-stop. After delivering the ballot box to the constituency count, I got home at about 11-30pm just as the first results were being announced from the north of England.
I couldn’t resist staying up for a while and finally went to bed at about 3pm having heard that our unwanted Conservative MP had been ousted by a local doctor, who i think will be very suitable. He even came to our door about six months ago canvassing for support, which stood him in good stead in my eyes. I was of course very pleased with the national results and hope that the new government can bring postive benefits to us all.
Today I slept in once again and actually got out of the house to walk up the hill to Daisybank. The local Friends of Daisybank had organised their annual festival to raise money for the community playground situated at the top of the open space. It has always been a play area situated next to the old cemetery, and I’ve even seen pictures from there of people in late Victorian times.
Helena went there a bit before me with her friend Vanessa, and when I arrived I found they already had new moustaches adorning their faces. I didn’t stay too long as I needed to go to the shops for some milk before the football match featuring England in a quarter-final of the European Championships. Helena stayed o for a while dancing to the dub and reggae music emanating for a gazebo. The tombola was doing good business and the community was out on the grass many sipping drinks from our adjacent local, the Crown and Sceptre.
I took a few pictures of the coconut shy and managed to get a picture of our neighbour’s family knocking a coconut to the ground, added as an ‘Extra’. I would have had a go but my old damaged shoulder makes that rather impossible these days.
But I was captivated, as I always am, by the amazing huge wind blown bubbles being produced by several mums, to the delight of all the children and many adults. I had to choose this picture as it didn’t actually show any identifiable children, although there were some pictures were lots of children chasing them across Daisybank.
