Welcome to Bucky's Lounge! / Beautiful Girl

A young buck has been hanging around our property for a few weeks. His favorite spot is beneath our deck, in the shade, which is where he spends the entirety of these hot summer days. (That red stuff to the right in the photo is monarda, which is blooming like crazy right now.) We call him Bucky; and yes, now, I think of this as Bucky's Lounge!

There is a young doe who sometimes prances around trying to get Bucky's attention. Sometimes he hangs out with her. Sometimes he ignores her. I don't know if romance may be afoot, but she occasionally joins him under the deck, in case that means anything at all.

In other news, I saw my first hummingbird moth of the year on Sunday morning, on milkweed up on Tow Hill. I was on my bike and didn't have my camera, of course. So on this morning, I went back. I did not see another hummingbird moth, but the first monarch of the year showed up, and you may view it in the extras; with thick black bands and no rear wing spots, it's a beautiful girl!

P.S. The afternoon featured appointment #2 for a crown. The temporary came off, the new crown went on. All went well, but it took the anesthetic FIVE HOURS to wear off! Wow!
