Day 16 Comillas to Unquera
The clear skies and sunshine returned providing some great views of the Picos de Europa on one side and coastal views on the other. The Camino bypasses San Vincent de la Barquera so I made a short detour and explored the town, dominated by the ruins of the 8th century Castillo del Rey.
I left the coast and turned inland following quiet country roads, bridges and just before my destination tonight a railway line.
Many more pilgrims about today including an exhausted elderly French couple who had been misdirected by a well meaning local along the Santo Toribio de Liébana pilgrimage route. The error cost them an extra 10k.
Unquera is described as a small town with few sights. There are canoe and kayaking outlets everywhere so I might go and find the river, and some supper with luck. This will be my last night in Cantabria, tomorrow I walk into Asturias.
29k, 523 ascent, about 8 pilgrims and 2 conversions.
