Sea Lavender

We were sorry to leave A and T this morning but know we will be back later this year.

Our first stop was Stiffkey marshes where I gathered fresh Samphire and also picked some sea lavender.
At this time of year the marshes are full of both.
A beautiful mass of purple as far as the eye can see.

Sea Lavender or its botanical name ‘ Limonium vulgare’ Is found growing on the salt marshes in Norfolk. Not related to the Lavender We saw on the way in to Norfolk.
It is however a great nectar source for bees, wasps, butterflies and moths.

The Samphire is often called sea asparagus.
It too grows in the salt marshes.
Pronounced ‘ Sam- fer’. The name derives from’ sampiere’ a corruption of the French Saint Pierre. ( Saint Peter) the patron saint of fishermen.

Then collected two crabs and some cockles from Brancaster.
Followed by Norfolk stawberries and raspberries from Drove Orchards.

A good journey home although the A1 was very busy.

A cuppa and then unloaded the car.
One lot of washing done.
The garden looks to have been well watered while we have been away!

Picked lettuce and potatoes to have with the crab, cockles and samphire for tea.
Along with a bottle of South African Sauvignon Blanc, and strawberries and ice cream to finish. Food fit for a king!

Despite the worst weather we have ever had in Norfolk, we have really enjoyed our mini break.

We are now settled down to watch the Match!
Fingers crossed!!
