Dillon Beach

After a nice dinner across the street at Nick’s Cove restaurant and a nightcap with Marc and Teri in their cottage we walked back down the hill to our own, admiring the dying rays of the sun on the pier. A group of kayakers was just setting out from the boat ramp for a sunset ride. There is always something to watch out there from seabirds wheeling over the bay to fishing trawlers slipping into the water off the end of the ramp.

As we were getting ready for bed, John began the nightly search for his phone from the car, through the contents of his suitcase and in all his pockets. A search on my find my phone app revealed that his phone was near the lane in Sebastopol where we stopped for a few minutes to look at the farmhouse where we used to stay.

After a sleepless night John set out after breakfast to drive back to Sebastopol to look for it. I will draw a veil over the ensuing search in which a helpful neighbor joined him, no doubt wondering what a strange man was doing poking around outside her bedroom windows.

Eventually he found it where I should have looked before the latest wild goose chase began, for it was right on the floor of the car beneath his feet. Why the app insisted it was in Sebastopol remains a mystery.

We got to Dillon Beach as the sun was trying to come out. The air was still and calm, the opposite of Spike as he charged around the beach sniffing at mounds of seaweed and greeting the dogs we passed as we walked down the beach. The sound of the waves seemed to throw off his echo location system as he kept trying to run back the way we came. He wasn’t keen on going in the water, but I think that will come with time.

The restaurant next to the general store is closed on Tuesday, so we carried on into Tomales for made to order deli sandwiches at a place we have often visited before. I put pictures in extras of the Tomales Hotel and the General Store across the street.

We’re now catching up on some missed sleep with a little nap before cocktails on the pier before dinner.
