CHATTANOOGA CHOO CHOO
First of all did anyone catch the start of a new series Cumbria, The Lakes and The Coast on Channel 5 last night. It was very good and featured a salt marsh farmer from Rockcliffe right up on the border and a gin maker from Ulverston, amongst other things. If you phone the usual number you can win a holiday in The Lakes - I can tell from the photos that it's The Storrs Hall Hotel just outside Bowness-on-Windermere. Worth watching.
A busy morning. Hubby had to go for a blood test this morning at 9.00 am. Luckily we always leave a little early as it's only 5 minutes drive down the road, today though Kents Bank Road near the playing field was completely shut with no prior warning - something to do with installing fibre optics, so it must have been planned!!! Luckily we know of a road that goes up quite steeply and does a sort of u shape, but for a lot of traffic along that road it will be too steep and narrow. We discovered that there are Road Closed signs all the way from the Meathop Roundabout through Lindale and Grange to Haverthwaite, but not one of them tells you where the road closure is. It's causing something of a hazard. We were so lucky that it was early morning so we got ahead of the rush.
After Hubby's blood test we had to come home for something so we went the long way round via The Mosses and Newby Bridge to Hayes Garden Centre in Ambleside. A stretch of road between Newby Bridge and Bowness has just yesterday had chippings laid down but boy is it very rough!!!!
We got to Hayes OK, I found some sandals that actually fitted me in the Pavers section so I acquired those. This is a rarity as shoes, and sandals in particular are extremely difficult for me as I have a wide foot with a very high instep and shoe manufacturers do not cater for both!!! I would love to get some fashionable sandals but sadly they re not made for me but at least these look OK. Hubby got the gardening stuff he needed in Hayes too so that was great
This time we came home via Ings and the A591 and A590 and stopped off at the Lakeside and Haverthwaite Railway whilst the steam is up to get some photos. Boy was it busy, two coach parties in as well as loads of cars. We sat at the top end of the platform waiting for the train to come in just so I could take this shot.
I don't use the cafe any more as it is now a Grab and Go cafe and if you sit it is all delivered in a carrier bag and in paper cups etc and if sitting in a cafe I'm afraid I do prefer proper plates, crockery and cutlery - just me being a bit picky really. Still it didn't matter.
After this we called in to Brooke Supplies for a light lunch which is served beautifully and the lady from Falkirk was serving today so we had a nice chat to her.
Now just home and catching up on a few things.
Do take care blip friends and I will see you all tomorrow.
