Holiday
(18/7/24)
(I am back-blipping yet again!)
The day began early with me making the morning tea, except I noticed G had been trying to descale the kettle, so I added my bit to what G began by polishing the stainless steel exterior. Then I moved on to the washing machine, thoroughly cleaning the drawer, and ran a program using an off-the-shelf cleaner!! I didn't know it had an Easy Iron and Cold Wash cycle. Doh. That's what happens when you only do cotton washes!
I nearly moved on to tackling something else, but I had to stop. It was time to pack my little case and get ready to leave for the hotel I'd booked for one night. My little holiday! :)))
We got there close to check-in time. (I have never been on time for check-in). The tiny reception was heaving. We were in the room by 4, taken there speedily by a buggy. The room (my first extra) had the promised Creek view, but the balcony is stretching the imagination. It had a tiny ledge, but you couldn't get on it. If they were referring to the terrace (my second extra), then it didn't have a Creek view. Anyway, it is way too hot to be outdoors even for a few minutes.
I had an idea to get to our dinner venue using a water taxi, but that plan was immediately scrapped. So tonight, after trying for at least three years to get to Up on the Tenth, we finally made it there. It is one of Dubai's oldest bars. As you can see in my last extra, it has an incredible view. The menu was fairly limited and the drinks pricey. They had a live band who got better as the evening went on. They even sang a couple of Beatles' and ABBA songs at G's & my request!
We got back to the room later than planned and I went straight to bed. So much for staying up to look out of the window to watch the boats going about their business. Sleep was what I needed. I have to say, being in this "old style" room with its oldy-worldly charm is quaint but the palm fronds on the ceiling emit a distinctive odour which is not nice.
