Pictorial blethers

Foodie fling

I was determined that whatever else we did in this strangely random, interrupted Edinburgh interlude we’d visit Valvona & Crolla and come away with what felt like half my body weight in Pecorino - and today was the day. Summer was over again, but unlike the West we had no rain and little wind, and we actually got quite hot pounding along Queen Street after a cheeky visit to the Rohan sale (yes: walking trousers!).

The reason for the pounding was our reserved table in V&C for lunch, at which we subsided happily and ordered Prosecco and olives (garlic-stuffed; as well we both ate them!) followed by roasted salsiccia on soft polenta with roasted peppers, followed by a delicious Sicilian lemon tart with Crème Fraîch and coffee. Then to the shop below, where I bought pasta, an interesting mix of pulses for soup, and several different varieties of Pecorino cheese and a slab of membrillo  paste.

Laden with this, we paid a visit to a lovely bookshop up the road, where I noted some titles for future reference, and pottered up the road in which I took this photo. I didn’t take for the church, in which it seems they now do everything except worship, but for the wildflowers that have sprouted up along the join of wall and pavement.

We then staggered to a bus-stop and onto the no. 11 bus which handily arrived shortly after. I love that we don’t have to pay…

Another rather odd supper was witness to the fact that we’re leaving tomorrow, though we didn’t quite finish the wine.

There I go mentioning wine again…
