The chained library
On the 20th March this year l blipped a photo from the British Library of a book on a chain which caused quite a bit of chatter. Here is the real thing - the chained library in the Cathedral at Hereford. The library has been moved since last l sat and gazed at it in awe, it has been moved downstairs and security added - no more taking the books down (still attached to their chain) and looking through them, definitely no touching now and perhaps that how it should be, these books are seriously old. It is said some of these books contain secrets yet to be found and told, l do not doubt it at all.
In extras is a collage containing
The Golden Legends - written by Italian Jacobus de Voragine but printed by William Caxton in English 1483 telling the stories of many saints.
A great discovery - parts of which were 8th century
A beautifully carved, very old book trunk
