Santa María la Real, Valdediós

Valdediós was allegedly named by Carlos I when he travelled south along it in 1516, to claim the crown of Spain. Probably he said it in German, of course, but it´s the Spanish translation that survives. The pre-Romanesque church of San Salvador de  Valdediós was there before him, and had been since the year 930 (other dates are also proposed). The church and monastery of Sta María la Real was built in the 13th century and is late-Romanesque.
The main photo shows on of the two arches over on of the two doors in the main, west, entrance to Sta María la Real.
The extras are 1. the double door in the west facade, 2. a manikin, a capital in one of the arches, 3. a view from the main gate, of the courtyard,  showing later units, whose original purpose I don´t know, 4. the south end of the courtyard, and showing the entrance to Sta María ,5. a couple of tourists looking at the doors, and 5. the church of San Salvador, seen from the church of Santa María.
