Noncommital...

After a meeting with the builder and his bricklayer we decided to drive into Bristol for the later part of the Harbour Festival. We were, it's fair to say, underwhelmed... There was lots on and it was all free, but maybe you do get what you pay for...

Driving home we found a huge tailback into the village, and we tried another way in only to find it equally blocked. Parking up we found there was an ongoing incursion onto the playing field by about forty traveller caravans and vehicles, being enthusiastically resisted by villagers. One car and caravan made it past the villagers but the rest were kept out.

Because the travellers had physically broken into the site and caused damage to the gate - the site is a private property of the charity than owns and runs the village hall and playing field - the police arrived in several cars, and eventually the convoy left for destinations unknown.

Travellers sites are few and far between (although we do have a small one nearby), and everyone needs somewhere to call home. However, attempting to park a few dozen 4x4 on the lovingly tended village cricket square is not likely to enamour the village to you...

Bristol is always a good idea... ;-)
