Eider at Ardmore Point

Happy to have a choice of photos to blip today from our walk this morning at Ardmore Point. There was a group of around 60  male Eider ducks which according to my RSPB book are flightless for a few weeks in July and August during their moult. Their plumage changes to a drab, blackish brown to help them camouflage into their surroundings at this time.
We also saw a group of 10 heron fishing in the shallows.
Across the water, PS Waverley, the last seagoing paddle steamer in the world, steamed past Port Glasgow on one of it’s regular summer outings.
