Bird Island

Made a decision to go kayaking every day this week. Ridiculous that it's almost the end of July and only been twice, both times for the sake of visitors. So, although I had an awful night, we got ready and went for a quick paddle out to what we call Bird Island - lots of birds, but no nests. And then, under the bridge to the small Vinhas dam, but no turtles.

This afternoon, Padre Luís messaged to say he was coming to Mourão, so we had an unexpected and lovely evening with him, and Ermelinda and Cecílio. 

Gratefuls:
- going outside around 4am, and seeing Jupiter bright in the eastern sky and reddish Mars just above it, and the moon glowing low in the west
- our own grapes for dessert
- air con in house, car, supermarket, restaurant; it's been up to 40C today, going higher the next two days
