Pictures at an Exhibition
Down in Londinium for an overnighter. Mrs M is having tea somewhere swanky with old school friends today, so we decided to make a short weekend of it.
Had splendid Italian lunch next door to Borough market, then a wander down the south bank.
We both happened on The international Garden Photograph of the Year competition at the Royal Watercolour society. Some stunning and inspiring photos.
We then went out sperate ways for a few hours, so I went to The Photographers Gallery at Mrjohns recommendation. The main body of work at the exhibition was titled Fresh Faced and Wild Eyed a showcase for emerging talent in photography in the UK. Some was quickly engaging, other required a bit more work by me. During the afternoon some of the artists stood next their work and talked with the viewers about it. Really interesting, I particularly enjoyed Harry Mitchell verbal narrative to his pictures of the Arab spring in Cairo and the exploration of reportage and image.
In my blip is one of Nicholas Feldmeyers photos After All!with him reflected in it fittingly (sheer fluke we hadnt met at this point)his exploitation in the images "for what lies beyond or before words" was fascinating.
To finish off my gallery trip Terry O'Neil gave an interview and showed some of his photos of the famous from the 60s with some fun and illuminating stories about Sinatra, the Beetles, The Stones, Ava Gardner, Audrey Hepburn.... Photography from another era.
And the sun is shining.
