What I've Done

By JohnGravett

On the Wainwright trail - but different!

In addition to the guides of the Lakeland Fells, A Wainwright published a book on "the outlying fells". So today we had a go at a few of them.

Namely:
Langhowe Pike
Great Ladstones
Seat Robert

Described as an easy walk of about 6 miles, we set out expecting a gentle day. No visible paths, the first part of the route about a mile trough overgrown bracken that we had to force our way through, (the end of the walk was the same) and the middle of the walk was so devoid of paths that we were "off piste" for most of the time. It ended up being almost 9 miles, and we felt as tired as a 12 mile walk in the Lakes. Hasn't really inspired us to continue with the Outlying Fells, though there are a few we will try, but it's NOT a new challenge.
