An Iconic Building
Set on the banks of the Rochdale Canal in Ancoats, Manchester, are Royal Mills - originally constructed in 1797 and comprehensively redeveloped in 2013 into apartments and commercial spaces. Manchester had the nickname 'Cottonopolis' because it was the centre of Britains cotton empire. The city had hundreds of mills like this, but most have been demolished. Some have been lucky and been re-purposed into apartments and commercial ventures. My extras show the entrance and one of the internal courtyards.. I have also included a photograph of a beautiful scale model that was in a glass case in the reception area. It gives you a good impression of just how enormous mills like Royal Mills were.
