Oasis
Kept to our daily kayak outing this week, launching from Mourão's jetty this morning, and paddling out to an island near Luz, with another abandoned farmhouse (see Mike by the fireplace in extra). Obviously once quite a place, but now filled with geese and pigeons, even a nest with eggs.
Temperatures today went up to 43C, which almost made us give up on the idea of a trip to Évora - if the car broke down, we would be in trouble, but decided to go for it in the end. World temperatures broke the record on Sunday, and even higher today... might seem remote in cool England, but I can assure you that these sort of temperatures are not liveable long term.
Gratefuls:
- our kayak, definitely cooler on the water
- a chat with Deb, Zion and Allegra, on our church's youth Camp in Dorset; poor Allegra got locked in the loo for a long time, not nice
- watching a lovely new Portuguese film at the cinema (one thing to do when too hot to be outside), set in the far north, Podia Ter Esperado Por Agosto
