The Caul Of Duty. Leitz Summicron 50mm DR

I am at the point in assembly of the Blanket Chest when it's time to glue on the base molding.  This is a big, chunky profile which gives not only rigidity, but aesthetic weight and dimension to the piece.  It has a very deep cove which is difficult to clamp.  I spent some time today devising and producing a set of custom cauls - made from some white oak scraps., They will distribute the clamp pressure just right at both the fattest and skinniest parts of the moldings.  The caul hooks over the bead on the molding, so it can't slide around; the last thing one wants during a difficult glue-up is to have things shift in unexpected ways when the glue is on and the clock is ticking.  A couple of dry runs to perfect the clamping technique, and on it will go.
