Hardwick Hall

Hardwick Hall in Derbyshire is a very impressive 16th Century house built to replace an older, adjacent hall, by the formidable Bess of Hardwick aka Elizabeth of Shrewsbury. Her initials ES are ubiquitous. The hall contains a large collection of tapestries.  The windows are now all curtained to protect the tapestries from sun damage - necessary but a pity because the building is renowned as having "more glass than wall." It also has a delightful formal garden.
