Day 2 the journey home
An early start, breakfast started at 06.30 at the Park Hotel Landau, we were first there. The first train left at 07.40, and we were on it, to Karlsruhe. No sign of the engineering works that happened 8 hrs earlier. We got to Karlsruhe with plenty of time to go and complain at the ticket office and ask if we could extend the day before’s tickets. This was ok, but no chance of getting a contribution towards the 2 hotels I booked the day before. We headed to platform 11, it was completely packed, and when the train came in, we were happy to get on with the bikes and get a seat. 10 mins later we were informed we had to get off the train, it had a problem, and go all the way to platform 4 to get on the replacement that would leave 20 mins later. We didn’t rush, it takes a while getting up and down all of the elevators with the bike. We were there 10 mins later, only to find the train actually left 5 mins before, and it wasn’t 20 mins late. Anyway, just 45 mins to wait for the next one. This went much more smoothly, and was only 15 mins late getting to Singen, and then we were back on Swiss trains. Phew what a relief!
The blip is the Rhine, just before the Rhinefall, we got home by 15.00. I had been working on the train, there were a few meetings, so carried on till quite late, back in my home office. Mr S washed the bikes, did the shopping, and made dinner. We have fallen quickly back into the home routine;-)
