Meandering with Meggles

When Megan, visiting the UK spontaneously from Cambodia, and I realised we’d be crossing paths in London, we were ecstatic. We met at Kings Cross and spent a wonderful evening walking, somewhat aimlessly, around Central and East London.

We made sure to set out from Kings Cross with a can of cider in hand, emerging around Waterloo Bridge, whereupon we crossed the Thames. We continued walking to Bermondsey where we ate Japanese food at one of those atmospheric restaurants where you are on long benches, two inches from fellow diners, earwigging into Gen X brainstorms about social media marketing. We crossed back over the Thames, pictured, timed with a lifting of Tower Bridge to allow a party boat through. We reached Spitalfields, where we bought posh cake from the Ottolenghi restaurant and ate it on a wall. I eventually deposited Meggles where she was staying with her husband’s friends at a house in Mile End, and I jumped on a bus back to Kings Cross.

A Friday evening to enrich the senses. And to deplete the bank balance, despite going to most places on foot.
