Portacath is out!
The port is out! I was nil by mouth from the night before, just allowed clear fluids until 6am. I tried a black tea but it was horrid so only had a sip of water so was desperate for a cuppa (and caffine) when it was done!
I went to theatre at about 11:30 and it only took about 20 minutes or so. It was done under local anaesthetic with sedation. I think it was valium injected into my hand. It was OK, I could feel it but it wasn't painful.
30 minutes in recovery with a lovely theatre nurse, we had such a lovely chat. Then back to the room. Cup of tea and orange juice, a jacket potato and beans for lunch and then my sister picked me up.
I felt quite groggy last night but feel OK this morning just a bit uncomfortable around where the port was. We are off to London today. We booked it before the port removal appointment was rescheduled, but I think I will manage OK.
It was a bit emotional as hopefully this is the final step.
